Material selection

Why choose Aluminum 5052 for your CNC project?

Aluminum 5052 is a non-heat-treatable alloy with a distinct balance of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability, and moderate strength.

01

Superior corrosion resistance

5052 performs well in saltwater and industrial atmospheres, making it a strong option for marine applications, outdoor enclosures, and exposed equipment.

02

Formability and welding

Compared with 6061, 5052 is better suited to parts that require bending or forming before or after machining. Its excellent welding characteristics support complex, multi-part assemblies.

03

Controlled CNC machining

5052 is slightly softer than 6061. We use high-speed cutting parameters and specialized tooling geometry to limit gummy chip buildup and maintain tight tolerances on thin-walled sections.

Select the alloy around the application

Both alloys are widely used in precision manufacturing, but their best-fit applications differ. Our engineers can help you balance CNC machinability, structural requirements, forming, and corrosion exposure.

Discuss your material choice
Consideration Aluminum 5052 Aluminum 6061
CNC machining Softer; needs optimized speeds, feeds, and tooling to prevent chip buildup. Generally more rigid and predictable for structural machined parts.
Forming and welding Excellent for bending, sheet metal forming, and welded assemblies. Less suitable when extensive forming is required.
Strength profile Moderate strength with strong corrosion resistance. Higher structural rigidity for load-bearing components.
Typical use Marine parts, outdoor enclosures, formed panels, and corrosion-prone equipment. Structural brackets, frames, housings, and general-purpose CNC components.

Production support

Precision machining from prototype to production

Project requirements change over time. Our workflow supports evaluation, validation, and repeat production without losing process control.

01 / DFM review

Design for Manufacturing feedback

We review 3D models and PDF drawings before cutting. Deep pockets and thin walls are assessed for distortion, with geometry suggestions that protect tolerance and cost.

02 / Validation

Fast-turnaround prototyping

Prototype orders from 1–10 pieces let your team validate fit, function, and surface requirements in the actual production material.

03 / Scale-up

Repeatable low-to-mid volume production

For 10 to 500+ pieces, stable workholding and repeatable setups help ensure the 500th part matches the first and reduces assembly-line variation.

Finishing options

Surface finishing for aluminum components

The right finish supports both functional performance and visual requirements. We offer in-house finishing for aluminum components.

Anodizing: Clear, black, or color options to increase surface hardness and corrosion resistance.
Hard anodizing: For components requiring maximum wear resistance.
Bead blasting: A uniform matte finish that helps hide tool marks.
Chemical film: Chromate conversion for electrical conductivity or paint preparation.
Brushing and polishing: Cosmetic finishes for visible components.

Quality assurance

Inspection built into every stage

We do not ship parts that fail your specifications. Critical dimensions and material identity are checked throughout production.

1

Incoming inspection

Raw material verification confirms the correct alloy, including 5052 where specified.

2

In-process inspection

Calibrated micrometers and pin gauges are used during the machining cycle.

3

Final inspection

CMM, height gauges, and thread gauges verify critical dimensions.

4

Quality reporting

Dimensional Inspection Reports and FAI reports are available upon request.
