Aluminum-Specific Turning Expertise

Turning aluminum requires a different approach than turning ferrous metals. Because aluminum has high thermal conductivity and a different coefficient of expansion, we focus on four critical areas.

Chip Control

Using specific insert geometries and coolant pressures to manage long, stringy chips that can mar surface finishes or cause tool failure.

Deformation Control

Aluminum is prone to distortion under clamping pressure. We design custom soft jaws and collets to secure thin-walled or fragile parts without crushing or warping.

High-Speed Machining

We utilize high-RPM spindles and specific feed rates to achieve superior surface finishes directly off the machine, often reducing the need for secondary polishing.

Thread Integrity

We maintain strict control over thread profiles and pitch diameters to ensure smooth, binding-free assembly for fasteners and connectors.

Parts We Manufacture

Our turning services are tailored for components that require high dimensional stability and precise fitment. Typical aluminum parts include:

  • Shafts and Spindles

High-concentricity components for precision drive systems.

  • Bushings and Sleeves

    Tight-tolerance bearing housings and spacers.

  • Threaded Connectors

Fittings and couplings requiring precise M-series or custom threads.

  • Flanges and Adapters

Rotational components for optical and modular framing systems.

  • Custom Standoffs

Precision spacers for PCB mounting and structural assembly.

  • Manifold Components

Internal fluid path parts requiring clean, burr-free bores.

Material Selection for Performance

We machine the full spectrum of aluminum alloys. Choosing the right alloy is critical for the function of your turned part.

6061-T6

Industry Standard

Excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and accepts anodizing well.

7075-T6

High Strength

High strength-to-weight ratio. Used for structural, high-stress components where steel-like strength is required at a lower weight.

2011

High-Speed Turning

Specifically designed for high-speed automatic screw machining. Provides the best surface finish and easiest chip breakage for complex threaded parts.

2024

Fatigue Resistant

High fatigue resistance, often used in aerospace and high-performance applications.

Quality Control & Surface Finishing

Precision turning is only as good as the final inspection. We verify every batch against your technical drawings.

  • Dimensional Reporting: We provide First Article Inspection (FAI) reports and full dimensional data upon request.

  • Surface Finish: We offer bead blasting for a uniform matte look, or brushing and polishing for cosmetic requirements.

  • Anodizing: We coordinate clear, black, and color anodizing, as well as hard anodizing for increased wear resistance on bearing surfaces or threads.

Why We Focus Only on Aluminum

You may ask, "Do you machine steel or brass?" The answer is no. We specialize exclusively in aluminum CNC machining.

By limiting our scope to one material, we eliminate cross-contamination risks and keep our machines, tooling, and inspection equipment calibrated specifically for aluminum. This focus translates to more stable processes, fewer dimensional errors, and consistent lead times for your projects.
