Design for Machining Guides
Practical design-for-manufacturing guidance for aluminum CNC parts. CNCALPARTS machines aluminum only, so every guide here is written around the real behavior of aluminum alloys — tooling, workholding, chip evacuation, deformation control, and anodizing preparation.

Why design for aluminum matters
Aluminum machines fast, but it also moves. Thin walls can distort, large pockets can release internal stress, and cosmetic surfaces show every tool mark. Anodized components need extra attention to dimension and surface condition before the finish is applied.
Because aluminum is our only material focus, these are the manufacturing challenges we work with every day. The guides in this category translate that shop-floor experience into design rules you can apply at the CAD stage — before a single chip is cut.
- Wall thickness and stiffness limits
- Tool access, reach and pocket geometry
- Hole, thread and tolerance callouts
- Surface finish and anodizing preparation
Custom aluminum housings, brackets, heat sinks and precision turned parts, machined from customer STEP files and 2D drawings.

Design for Machining guides
Each guide covers a specific design topic for aluminum CNC parts, written for engineers, product designers and procurement teams who need parts that machine cleanly and repeat consistently from prototype to production.
From prototype to production
CNCALPARTS supports aluminum machining from early prototypes to recurring production. For prototypes we focus on fast manufacturing and design evaluation. For low-volume and batch production we focus on stable setups, efficient machining, repeatability and consistent inspection.
Parts are manufactured according to customer drawings, 3D models, tolerances, surface requirements and application needs — enclosures, housings, heat sinks, brackets, plates, frames, manifolds, optical mounts and robot components.
Prototype
1–10 pcs, fast turnaround and design evaluation.
Low-volume production
10–500 pcs with repeatable setups.
Batch production
500+ pcs with consistent inspection.
Finishing
Bead blasting, brushing, polishing and anodizing.
Drawing formats we accept
STEP, STP, SLDPRT, IGES, X_T, DWG, DXF, PDF
